Poland supposed to use energy surpluses from RES more efficiently

Rather than limiting the power generation, experts have been calling for a modernised energy system that adapts more flexibly to peaks and off-peaks.

In a recent article, Teraz Środowisko has taken up the issue of insufficiently used energy surpluses from renewable energy resources (RES) in Poland. During the festive season, mild temperatures had caused a drop in demand for electricity. At the same time, wind levels increased, resulting in an energy surplus from RES.

Rather than limiting the power generation of wind parks, experts have been calling for a modernised energy system that adapts more flexibly to peaks and off-peaks by reducing or increasing the supply from conventional units accordingly. Moreover, the supplement of heating networks with heat pumps as well as the development of suitable storage technologies is suggested to scoop the full potential of RES. This also requires the unlocking of the Polish Distance Act and the expansion of current distribution networks:

“Investments in the modernization and expansion of distribution networks are necessary. Their current state limits, and in many cases prevents the connection of additional capacities and the full use of the potential of renewable energy sources”, says Holger Gallas, member of the board of Sevivon.
